Cryptocurrency Regulation and Adoption of E-Naira

Advocacy Action:

The Center advised the government on banning foreign cryptocurrencies and advocated for a locally made cryptocurrency to ensure regulation and support the push for a cashless economy.

Advocacy Success:

This resulted in the creation of the E-Naira, following a letter from the Center to the presidency through the chamber of commerce.

Liberalization of Meter Sales and Local Manufacturing

Advocacy Action:

The Center pushed for the liberalization of the sale of electricity meters, advocating for local production by the private sector to encourage competition and affordability.

Advocacy Success:

This led to discussions with the leadership of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), resulting in indigenous manufacturers taking over the production of meters, previously controlled solely by the government.

Creation of the Ministry of Livestock

Advocacy Action:

As part of efforts to address farmer-herder clashes and revitalize the dairy and livestock industry, the Center advocated for the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock.

Advocacy Success:

This ministry was created by the federal government to regulate and cater to the needs of the livestock sector.

Establishment of Climate Change Commission

Advocacy Action:

The Center called for the creation of a Climate Change Commission to ensure the development and supervision of a roadmap for energy transition, especially within the business community.

Advocacy Success:

In response, the government established the National Council on Climate Change, with the president serving as chairman.

Decentralization of Electricity Distribution and Transmission

Advocacy Action:

To improve the efficiency of the power sector, the Center advocated for the decentralization of both the distribution and transmission arms of the electricity sector.

Advocacy Success:

This resulted in the government removing power transmission from the exclusive legislative list and placing it on the concurrent list, allowing private companies to participate across the power sector’s value chain.
