Stakeholders from across Nigeria’s public and private sectors gathered in Abuja for a landmark roundtable aimed at reshaping the nation’s livestock industry into a major driver of economic growth and food security. Organized by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) in collaboration with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), the high-level engagement marked the first privately driven national dialogue focused on livestock sector reform, signaling a renewed push to unlock the industry’s vast untapped potential.

In his address, NACCIMA President Jani Ibrahim underscored the sector’s capacity to generate millions of jobs, boost exports, and significantly contribute to GDP if properly developed.

Echoing this vision, ACCI President Emeka Obegolu described the roundtable as a historic step toward building a structured, investment-friendly livestock ecosystem. Stakeholders emphasized the need for strong public-private partnerships, with ACCI Director General Mr. Agabaidu Jideani, who doubled as the Chairman of the NACCIMA Livestock Trade Group, calling for data-driven policies and sustainable financing to accelerate transformation.

Declaring the event open, the minister of livestock development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to reforming the sector, while Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and members of the diplomatic community lent their support.

The roundtable is expected to yield a practical roadmap for private sector-led investment, fostering innovation, reducing conflicts, and positioning Nigeria’s livestock industry as a key pillar of economic diversification.
