University of Abuja and Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry today launched a developmental partnership with the appointment of Prof Adesoji Adesugba as the Chairman of the joint committee of the two organizations on the private sector-led infrastructural development of the university permanent site.

Inaugurating the committee today at the conference hall of the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah said the partnership with the private sector is designed to fast track the infrastructural development of the university through innovative public-private sector partnership.

According to him, the committee is to develop a framework for PPP for tourism development, mining programne, film village, and railway programme which will be implemented as quickly as possible.

He described the University of Abuja as prominently positioned to attract private investment on a massive land he said has a beautiful landscape, rivers, and close proximity to the Abuja International airport.

Tasking the committee to integrate sustainable best practices into its work, the Vice-Chancellor assured that the university leadership will fully support the implementation process to realize the goal of a well-developed university for all Nigerians.

“I hereby inaugurate this committee in fulfillment of the spirit of partnership, to work and develop a plan for turning the University of Abuja campus into a tourism attraction, to be privately driven, and for programs in Minning and UniAbuja Film Village and to submit a plan to the University which will lead to immediate implementation in the best tradition of University-Private enterprise. In addition, the committee will also come up with a second framework for research, intervention, and collaboration with the FCTA on environmental management, tourism, and railway engineering”, he said.

Responding, the Chairman of the Committee, Prof Adesugba commended the vision and agenda of the Vice-Chancellor, hailing his proactive move to deploy private capital to speed up and exploit the potentials of the university.

Adesugba who is an investor service professional said the committee will deploy its rich contacts and wealth of experience to create an implementable plan of action to meet the aspiration of the university leadership.

According to him, the University of Abuja has the name, the landmass, and advantage of the location to become a world-class tourist attraction, running global academic programmes in railway and hospitality alongside other disciplines, assuring that the committee will set to work to deliver urgently on the task at hand.
